The Billie Jean King Cup is akin to the Davis Cup for women’s tennis. The American team was announced to be comprised of Pegula, Navarro, Madison Keys, and Caroline Dolehide. Pegula sat down with Tennis Channel after receiving a walkover from Zhu Lin in the Miami Open. She believes that everyone is playing well and that Navarro is currently on the best momentum of any other player in the team.
“I think we’re all playing really good tennis. I think any of us could play for sure. Doesn’t matter ranking or whatever. We’ve all been playing really good. Emma’s been having an amazing start to the year. I feel like she’s been playing the best out of anyone, really.”
She also said that athletes will have a lot of fun together as the atmosphere off-court will be relaxed and laid back. “So it’s. It’ll be really fun, but everyone’s pretty laid back and pretty cool. We all get along really well, so I’m really excited. It’s always a fun week and, even though it’s stressful, it’s nice to be able to embrace that stress with more of a team atmosphere, which I always really enjoy.”
