This Romanian WTA star was suspended by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) for using a banned substance, Roxadustat. The Agency brought forth a four-season ban on Halep. However, the WTA prodigy fought for her rights and finally managed to shorten her suspension to nine months from four years.

In Miami Open’s recent press conference, Wozniacki was asked to drop her bits about the Simona Halep case. In her response, Wozniacki made a straight point that despite liking Halep, she is not cool with doping at all. Wozniacki said, “I’ve been very outspoken in the past about how I feel about doping and all of that. I think my view on doping is the same. I have always wanted a clean sport, fair for everybody. I think it’s still my opinion. Again, this is not directly at Simona, but if someone purposely cheats, if someone has tested positive for doping… I understand why a tournament wants a big star in the tournament, but it’s my personal belief, and it’s not a knock on anyone, but it’s my personal belief that I don’t think people should be awarded wild cards afterwards.”
Wozniacki further spoke about how she believes that if a tennis player has been punished for their mistakes, then that player should try to work hard and make their way to the top position from the bottom. Wozniacki mentioned how Simona Halep’s case was unnecessarily dragged. However, the Romanian WTA star got a reduced sentence of nine months but not a “clearance.”
