Mirra Andreeva’s 2025 season has been nothing short of a dream. After an inspiring run to the fourth round at the AO, the 17-year-old phenom secured two back-to-back WTA 1000 titles in Dubai and Indian Wells, putting the tennis world on notice. However, amid her meteoric rise, Mirra’s heart held a softer wish; she was dreaming of a puppy. Even during Indian Wells, she teased fans with an update on getting one. Now, as the clay court drama heats up in Madrid, she’s revealed her furry companion is finally on the way.
Last fall, Andreeva was contemplating adding a new member to her team, not a coach or a trainer, but a puppy. It all started with a deal with her mom. The agreement was that if Mirra cracked the WTA’s Top 20 ranking, she could finally get a dog. And true to her determination, the teen sensation hit the milestone after a stunning run to the QF at the China Open in October. She didn’t let her mom or the world forget that promise.
“I think I will not buy a dog right away. I want to buy a dog when I am super confident that I will be able to give everything I can to the dog, because it’s like a little child. Now, it’s a bit complicated. I need to get more mature so I can take care of my dog,” she said back then. And it seems the time has arrived now.

Just a while back, Tennis Channel’s official IG page came up with the most wholesome content of the week: a heart-melting video titled – Mirra is getting her Puppy with the caption teasing, “Puppy coming soon 🙈‼️” The reel stitched together a feel-good trilogy of Mirra Andreeva moments: it opened with her asking a magic prediction ball if she would get a puppy this year, and getting a resounding “Yes” in response.
The second clip threw it back to Indian Wells, where she adorably confessed her puppy dreams. Then came the big reveal, Mirra joyfully announcing the exact timeline when her furry friend will finally join the family!
“So my girl dog has decided that I want a girl. She’s gonna be born in couple of days or weeks so she’s gonna be born like in April. I already talk to the lady that does all that and soon probably maybe after Wimbledon maybe it’s going to need to wait for a couple of days for the puppy to be ready. So maybe after Wimbledon I’m going to have my little puppy,” Mirra said.

During the Indian Wells tournament this year, Andreeva had specified her desired breed. “I’m thinking to get an ultra mini labradoodle. It’s going to be a Labrador mixed with poodle, and it’s ultra mini, so going to be even smaller than a mini version. It’s going to take time until the dog that I want will be born. We wait for now,” the Russian had confessed after beating Elina Svitolina in the QFs of Indian Wells.

Mirra Andreeva is going to face Magdalena Fręch in the Madrid Open
Two years ago, at only 15, Andreeva had burst onto the scene right here in Madrid with a thrilling run to the R16. What once seemed like a dream is now routine for the young phenom, whose career has since taken off with breathtaking speed on the tour.
At just 17, Andreeva’s rise is nothing short of meteoric. She has achieved the Top 10 ranking faster than any other player and currently holds a 9-9 record against Top 10 opponents as well. In WTA 1000 events this year alone, the World No. 7 leads the chart in both winners (398) and aces (78), stats that scream of a future legend in the making for sure.

“It feels like literally a week ago. But, yeah, of course, I’m super excited to come back to Madrid. I have great memories. At that time, I didn’t really think that I achieved the Round of 16, how great it is, and all that. But now, of course, I think about it … you know, it’s not too bad, I can say,” Andreeva said after her second round match in Madrid.
The soon-to-be 18 Andreeva has returned to Madrid with a purpose, dispatching Marie Bouzkova 6-3, 6-4 in her opening match. That victory sets the stage for a third-round battle against the Pole Magdalena Fręch on Friday, a showdown that could make Mirra’s birthday weekend even more memorable. What do you think the result will be?
