In recent years, the tennis world has been marred by numerous match-fixing scandals. These crimes have resulted in lifetime bans and hefty fines. Recently, Baptiste Crepatte, a French ATP player, was charged with various serious crimes. The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) has started investigations into match-fixing incidents in conjunction with law enforcement in Belgium.
This latest scandal has rocked the tennis world and raised serious concerns about the integrity of the sport. Match-fixing has been an ongoing issue in sports for many years. Players and syndicates often attempt to profit from manipulating the outcomes of matches. While the sport’s governing bodies have been taking steps to combat this problem, it seems that the issue is far from resolved.

The latest scandal has once again put a spotlight on the dark side of the sport and raised concerns about its integrity. Baptiste Crepatte has been banned for three years for his involvement in match-fixing. The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) fined the 28-year-old a sum of $15,000. The ITIA also stated that Crepatte was “involved in the fixing of three matches” and contested the charges.
The Agency has banned Crepatte for three years under multiple breaches of the Tennis Anti-Corruption Program (TACP) rules. An independent Anti-Corruption Hearing Officer, Professor Richard McLaren, upheld the charges brought by ITIA. The ITIA accused Crepatte of Corruption Offenses under Sections D.1.b., D.1.d., and D.2.a.i. of the 2018 TACP.
The ITIA statement revealed that McLaren found Crepatte guilty of manipulating three matches and committing seven TACP breaches. These breaches include his failure to report corrupt approaches to the ITIA and directly or indirectly facilitating Tennis Betting.
The ban imposed on him means that he cannot play, coach, or attend any tennis event authorized or sanctioned by the governing bodies of tennis until April 19, 2026. Moreover, this is not the first time an instance of this magnitude took place.

Dmitrieva was guilty of six match-fixing incidents while Merdeeva was involved in two incidents. This is not the first time that the ITIA has had to take action against match-fixing in tennis. They also handed Ukrainian player Stanislav Poplavskyy a life ban in December 2020 for his involvement in a match-fixing scandal.
