Coco Gauff strikes again! Fresh off a hard-fought but decisive 6-3, 6-3 victory against fellow American Sofia Kenin, the 20-year-old was all smiles. But as her on-court interview progressed, the focus soon shifted from one of the most difficult Round 1 fixtures to her sartorial choices. And in a sea of less-than-showstopping kits this season (we’re looking at you, Nike!), Gauff certainly stood out. Why, you ask? Well, that has to do with a certain fan club Gauff self-admittedly belongs to!

A long-time fan of Marvel and its superhero franchises, Coco Gauff was inspired by the female characters to create her own take for the 2025 Australian Open kit. Relying on a trusty team of designers at the beck and call of her sponsors, the one-time Grand Slam winner turned her dreams into reality. And boy, did her vision deliver!

Sponsored by New Balance, Gauff wore a bodysuit featuring a solid white tank top. She paired it with a short grey wrap-around skirt. Taking cues from the cargo pants she loves wearing, she added pockets and fake buttons for a utilitarian vibe. However, what really caught the eye were the superhero-inspired cutouts all over.

When the American athlete was asked to speak about her outfit, Gauff broke out into a smile and said, “I’m a huge Marvel fan so a lot of the female superheroes have like cool cutouts on their outfits, so that’s what I wanted to do on my outfit.” But the struggle that went behind is the real motivator.

Despite registering her kit’s offbeat style, Coco Gauff continued, “But it is a pain to get into because it’s a bodysuit guys. so I have to like put the bottom part first and then pull it like over my head. It’s a struggle and if you can’t hold your bladder, it’s also not a good idea. You have to sacrifice for fashion.”

If nothing else, Coco’s designs are a testament to her bold personality – much like her tennis idol, Serena Williams, whose outspoken outfits used to be an extension of her character’s fierceness and prowess. Serena Williams made a fashion statement at the 2018 French Open, debuting a custom-made Nike bodysuit designed by Virgil Abloh.

Well, Gauff’s Marvel mania is an inspiration behind her 2025 Australian Open look. From binge-watching series based on the iconic superhero franchise to dressing up as her favorite character for Halloween, she has proven that she excels in the list of Marvel fans.
