Who would’ve thought that the Australian Open would produce a new champion after Aryna Sabalenka’s dominant run Down Under? However, Madison Keys overcame all odds to prevail here as she won her maiden Grand Slam title. While she defeated Sabalenka in the summit clash, Keys also overcame the challenges of Iga Swiatek and Elena Rybakina en route. One of the crucial reasons behind Keys’ success was the support of her husband and coach, Bjorn Fratangelo. Recently, ex-pro Jan-Michael Gambill made a massive prediction about Keys while lauding Keys’ partnership with Fratangelo.
In the middle of the 2023 season, Keys joined forces with Fratangelo and the two have been going strong since. Further, in November last year, the duo tied the knot, teaming up on the personal front as well, apart from their professional partnership. Owing to Keys’ current form and a strong team behind her, former player Gambill feels that the best is yet to come from her.
During The Inside-In Tennis Podcast, Gambill remembered Keys’ US Open final a few years back and said, “She took it on maturely. You have to give Sloane credit because she played unbelievable in the final in the US Open those few years ago and the pressure was on Madi; she was nervous in that match. That’s helped her be there again; that had never happened before and she was more calmer and mature and tell you what? I wouldn’t be surprised if she wins another one at some point; now she’s got the confidence; she has the right man in the corner; she married the right guy. It’s a good combo.”

Back in 2017, Keys reached the final of the US Open and was up against her compatriot, Sloane Stephens, in the summit clash. However, Stephens ran riot in that match and defeated Keys tamely in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0. While it was a nervous outing for Keys back then, she made sure to keep her nerves in check this time around to prevail over Sabalenka.

On the other hand, it has been a dreamy married life for Keys so far. From coach to husband, she found the perfect love and guidance in Fratangelo. Days after her Australian Open triumph, she made a candid revelation about her husband.
Madison Keys reflects on her dream partnership
While the start of the 2024 season was a rollercoaster ride for Keys with her injury setbacks, she had the perfect ending to the season as she tied the knot with her coach, Fratangelo. A couple of months later, Keys won her first Grand Slam title with Fratangelo by her side. As she triumphed Down Under, Keys reminisced about her emotional ride with her husband.

She said, “Things have been good! Yeah, I mean, being married so far has been great. It’s been amazing. He started helping me about a year and a half, about two years ago and he really didn’t want to. He said he was very uncomfortable with telling me what to do and did not want to do it. I basically had to force him to come with me.”
While Jan-Michael Gambill has already indicated that Keys might win another Grand Slam title, the American star would look to take it one step at a time. Keys has withdrawn from the Qatar Open due to a hamstring injury and will be seen in action at the Dubai Duty-Free Tennis Championships.
