Tennis star Sloane Stephens and her soccer player husband, Jozy Altidore are the type of power couple that spans sports. Their romantic bond, spanning several years, is the stuff of fairy tales, admired by fans everywhere. Yet, even for this dynamic duo, the demands of their respective careers often pose challenges to their personal lives. Recently, the tennis star opened up about one such challenge, shedding light on the reason behind their delayed honeymoon. 

Stephens and Altidore first met when both were attending middle school in Boca Raton, Florida. They reconnected in 2016 and their friendship soon turned into a romantic saga. The duo finally tied the knot on New Year’s Day in 2022. However, despite being married for over two years, the couple has still not gone on a honeymoon!

The American tennis player recently appeared on the television show, Today and revealed the reason. When asked about why the couple has been unable to go on a honeymoon and if they have some plans regarding the same, Stephens highlighted time restrictions.  “Well, work is in the way sometimes, you know. We both have been working crazy schedule and I guess that I travel so much.” 

She further highlighted that the variety of places across the globe further increases their confusion as they fail to choose one. “We said we wanna do something, I just don’t know what, like I’ve been taking all these suggestions. I am like…. Give me a really nice honeymoon somewhere, but, I, there’s so many places, there is so many things to do. Too many options.” Well, this is not the first time when Stephens has talked about her honeymoon.

Talking to PEOPLE in September 2022 about her honeymoon, Stephens expressed the couple’s desire to spend time together. “When you travel 40-plus weeks a year for work, all you want to do is come home to each other and enjoy the downtime,” she said. “We definitely will take a honeymoon at some point, but we’re both super busy with work!” Meanwhile, their journey, and especially their reunion has been really impressive!

After being childhood friends, Sloane Stephens ran into Jozy Altidore in a hallway…and the rest was history!

The 31-year-old and her husband have known each other for a very long time. The duo first met when Sloane was in 5th grade and Altidore was in 7th at the Boca Prep International School, per Vogue. However, the childhood friends did not reconnect till 2016, after the tennis player moved away from the city. But destiny had its own plan.

Stephens and Jozy ran into each other in California in 2016 at the Home Depot Center in Carson. The accidental meeting soon blossomed into love and the two started dating in 2017. Speaking to Vogue, Altidore revealed the incident. “I was doing a media scrum in the hallway during a US men’s National team camp. Sloane was there training for Fed Cup in Hawaii.”

He added that they exchanged contacts, spent some time together, and the rest was history. “Sloane turned the corner while having a loud conversation on FaceTime. We locked eyes and started talking during the scrum. We exchanged contacts and went to dinner after my game versus Iceland. The rest was history.”

While Stephens failed to answer if the couples will go on a honeymoon anytime soon, it will be interesting for how long their respective duties stop them from the much-awaited quality time together.
