The action has started in the Czech Republic at this time. The Ostrava Open semi-finals have commenced. Iga Swiatek is facing Maria Sakkari for a place in the final.  The first semi-final had seen some quality rallies and service games during the match. The fourth seed of the tournament Maria showed some of the best of her abilities on the court today. She defeated the top seed of the tournament to proceed to the finals in straight sets. The match ended with a score of 6-4,5-7.

The set started with both the players keeping firm on their serves. They were focusing on the strong parts of their game and held their service games initially. Unexpectedly, Iga got two opportunities to break Maria’s serve but could not. On the other hand, Sakkari didn’t let go of the single breakpoint she got and took advantage. Swiatek is the top-seeded player in this tournament and is the favorite to win the title. Maria had some other plans for her though. Sakkari took the first set with a score of 6-4.

Set 2

The Polish star had no plans of giving up as she started the second set with full passion. Sakkari had been using her severe well to dominate in her service games. The rallies between both the players were a pleasure to watch. There were some good quality strokes being played by both of them. They held their respective serves in the first four games of the set. Maria took the lead in the set when she broke the serve of Iga in the fifth game of the set. She held the next game to hold her grasp on the advantage she bagged in the set. The 20-year-old Iga finally showed her skills and broke back in the 8th game of the set. The set went long but eventually, Sakkari came out victorious.

Maria has now reached the final of the Ostrava Open. She will now face the winner of the match between Kontaviet and Kvitova.Sakkari has finally entered the top ten rankingsafter  this win. She now stands with 3995 points and holds the 10th position worldwide.
