Is the sponsor's decision to drop Raducanu justified, or should they have shown more support?

Who doesn’t love the roaring engine noises of a sports car? Simply put, Emma Raducanu did not grow up swooning over the electric vehicles of today’s time. Precisely, motorcars fueled an intriguing feeling inside her. By virtue of impressive results, the British sensation luckily upgraded her dream garage with one of the finest vehicles by the automobile giant. However, reports indicate that her elusive deal with Porsche could be weaning away.

Raducanu fell in love with Porsche, seeing one of her tennis coaches pull up to her training facility in a Porsche. “Whenever I would turn up to practice in the morning, I would see his Porsche,’ she said. ‘I would go, ‘Wow!’ and be dreaming of one day sitting in my own.” Naturally, excitement sky-rocketed for the 21-year-old when she was appointed ‘Global Brand Ambassador’ for Porsche after her thrilling 2021 US Open glory, aged 18.

Raducanu demonstrated her commitment to the company by appearing in promotional videos. She showcased her driving skills in a 911 GT3 at Brands Hatch and even shared the track with Formula 1 legend Mark Webber in a 911 Carrera S at Silverstone. Bringing dreams to life, Raducanu was pictured cruising in a 911 Carrera GTS Cabriolet en route to the National Tennis Centre in Roehampton. However, as luck would it, the British star has been stripped of her German marque. With speculations surrounding the worrisome update rising, a Porsche spokesperson reportedly said:

“While we do on occasion loan Emma a car, this is very much on an ad hoc basis”. Furthermore, the German company is known for withdrawing their motorcars from celebrity ambassadors now and then… if concerns about their return on investment rise. Despite signing the lucrative deal, and additionally promoting the company when presented with an opportunity, Raducanu could be on the outs with the German car manufacturer.

A spokesperson insisted that the Briton is a “global brand ambassador for Porsche. There have not been any changes within our successful partnership since it started in 2022. We are very happy with our partnership.” However, Raducanu’s injury-plagued phase will do no favors for her lucrative deal with Porsche.

After retiring to Daria Kasatkina mid-match, the former World No. 10 updated fans with the recent developments. For those unaware, the young talent previously went under the knife for multiple ankle and wrist surgeries to remedy her physical concerns. “Hello, last week in Seoul I sprained some ligaments in my foot which unfortunately need some more time to heal.”

This, in turn, marked her second consecutive withdrawal from a tour-level event.
