Despite being together for almost 8 years, Madison Keys still manages to surprise her coach cum partner, Bjorn Fratangelo. After receiving a surprising marriage proposal last year, this WTA star chose to freak her fiance out with her incredible tennis skills. Keys is currently in Madrid for the WTA 500 tour and she just defeated No. 3 seed Coco Gauff in an All-American battle lasting two hours and 30 minutes.

Known for her incredibly fast (120 miles per hour on average, per most reports) serving skills, Keys already garnered a lot of attention in the fraternity. However, her match against Gauff stunned fans seeing her speedy tennis strokes. But this professional tennis player’s clay court dominance surprised her coach with a playful glee.

The Tennis Channel’s official X account shared a clip where Madison Keys engaged in a conversation with host Prakash Amritraj about her serve. When Amritraj asked Keys about whether she felt any pressure on her opponent after an incredibly speedy serve, Keys chose to deny that with a humorous response. Then she went on to narrate what her fiance and coach Bjorn Fratangelo thinks about it. Keys commented- “I don’t think I hit the ball that hard. Sometimes I am like that was okay and Bjorn will look at me and he’s like, ‘That was 12o miles an hour. What are you talking about?’ I don’t know it felt average.”

Keys further spoke about changing racquets due to her shoulder injury. She switched from 18-20 to 16-19 and also removed her racquet’s gut. But it’s made her miss the sound and made her hit harder strokes to swing the ball at that speed. Key’s shoulder injury hasn’t allowed her to use her other racquet but in reaching her first quarterfinals in Madrid, the American has bested her previous record at the tournament – a third-round appearance in 2016.
