Madison Keys faced a troubling period on the British grass. After an impressive performance against Jasmine Paolini, Keys suffered a massive tweak in her leg, forcing her to retire from the match as the score read 3-6, 7-6, 5-5. Disappointed and disheartened, Keys left Court 1 in tears. Now, weeks after the ill-fated day, Keys offered an assuring health update despite withdrawing from the Paris Olympics. Is she eyeing the US Open?
Keys took to her official Instagram story to share an update about her injury. After the second second set against Paolini, Keys tweaked her leg accidentally while landing on the court after missing a forehand. While Keys was provided with medical assistance, she was visibly struggling to walk after retiring from the match in tears. She was later diagnosed with a hamstring injury.
Now, almost weeks after the day, the American player gives a positive sneak peek of her health. “So many of you have been asking for an update on my injury and I really appreciate all your messages. The leg is feeling a lot better and my rehab has been going really well. Luckily the injury wasn’t too severe so hopefully I’ll be back soon,” Keys wrote in her social media story.

Keys is no stranger to injuries that can have a lasting effect. After a shoulder injury suffered in October 2023, Keys had to go on a long hiatus, missing the Australian Open, only to return in the Indian Wells Masters. No athlete can forget the troubles of such an injury, which is likely why Keys shed tears when she exited Court 1, fearing the worst could happen again and she would have to miss several tournaments.
She saw immense support pouring in from her colleagues. Sloane Stephens, Laura Robson, and Robin Montgomery, who are well aware that an injury can be disastrous, told Keys to keep her head up high and wished to see her back on the court soon.

The American player’s update on her recent injury helped her fans breathe a sigh of relief. Keys can focus on recovery, her prep will be focused on the upcoming US Open. However, fans truly wanted to see her in Paris. Last month, this American WTA star delved deeper into why she decided to forego the Paris Olympics.
Madison Keys finds her Olympics decision not “an easy” one
Madison Keys opting out from the Paris Olympics gave Emma Navarro a chance to join the roaster. Last month she revealed her reasons behind the decision and hinted at the “pressure” as one of the many factors. “It was a really tough decision, but having missed the beginning of the season due to injury and it being clay and then grass and clay straight into hard and obviously I had a really big hard court season last year, so there’s also the kind of the pressure pending that as well. It just felt like the best decision given my many, many years on tour,” she said.

Keys concluded by saying, “It was just the kind of the safest decision for me to stay healthy and try to be able to play the rest of the season. And I think that it’s always kind of a bummer when that’s just kind of how things play out. And it unfortunately was in a very different time zone, on a different surface, so it was not an easy decision to make,”
Keys’ decision about the Paris Olympics wasn’t an easy one. However, given her injury, she probably made the right decision and now we can expect her to return in her best form for the US Open.
