British tennis star Emma Raducanu made an explosive start to her first Cincinnati Masters campaign, as she beat Serena Williams and Victoria Azarenka in two consecutive days. Safe to say, last year’s US Open champion looks ready to defend her crown in Flushing Meadows.
Despite a great start to the Cincinnati Masters, Raducanu did not have a great year in terms of success on the tennis court, as she did not win a single title in 2022. Speaking about her form, she had a conversation with legendary Czech-American player Martina Navratilova.

Emma Raducanu engages in a hilarious conversation with Martina Navratilova
After winning against the 2-time Grand Slam champion, Victoria Azarenka in the round of 32, Raducanu talked to Martina Navratilova who was covering this match. In the interview, Navratilova asked the Brit about what she had for breakfast. In reply, Raducanu hilariously said, “You’ve made me really aware of my last 12 months, Martina.“
Later, she talked about having a bad year despite two great performances. “You know what? You’re going to have a bad year, regardless. For mine to happen after winning the US Open from qualifying, I think is all part of the journey. I’m learning from it,” the Brit said to Navratilova.
“Today, I just realised that I’ve been really high and I‘ve been really low and I think just staying on one sort of level like I was today and yesterday just really helps as well,” she further said.
Notably, Raducanu became only the third British player to reach the round of 16 at the Cincinnati Masters; previously, Virginia Wade and Johanna Konta reached the last 16.
Raducanu bageled both Serena and Azarenka
In the first match at the Cincinnati Masters, Raducanu bageled Serena in the second set after winning the first set comfortably by 6-4. Then, in the second match, she again destroyed Azarenka, winning the first set 6-0 and then losing only two games in the second set. In two matches, she lost six games, as she showed signs of regaining her form.
