Renowned American sports writer John Feinstein`s book, ”Hard Courts” about the men’s and women’s tennis tours once revealed how former tennis player Chris Evert experienced smoking marijuana one time.

The advanced edition of Feinstein’s book also had information about she convinced her parents to agree to her divorce from British player John Lloyd. It also explained Steffi Graf’s father’s issues. According to Feinstein, Graf didn’t respect and admire her father as much as people used to believe.

John Feinstein’s book revealed Chris Evert used to smoke marijuana

Taking excerpts from Feinstein’s book, it could be understood that Evert decided against smoking marijuana after trying it on a few occasions. The legendary American was quoted as saying, “It’s illegal and it’s dangerous. When I smoked it, it made me brain-dead. I was out of it completely.”

Feinstein also wrote about Evert’s early love story with tennis player Jimmy Connors, her traumatic divorce from British athlete John Lloyd, and her second marriage to skier Andy Mill.

In the book, Evert also talked about her divorce and how her parents were furious at the same idea.

My father didn’t speak to me for months when John and I divorced,” she is quoted as saying in the book. 

The whole thing was very tough on my whole family. Part of it was being Catholic, part of it was that they loved John,” Evert continued.  

Evert joined good friend Martina Navratilova to share her views on Brittney Griner

Navratilova and Evert recently voiced their concerns over WNBA star Brittney Griner’s arrest. Griner was arrested at the airport months ago on marijuana possession charges. They both took to Twitter to express their opinions.

One of the greatest sporting rivalries ever was the one that Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova shared. They competed against one another 80 times, with Navratilova winning 43 and Evert winning 37 of their encounters.

Given that it lasted for about 16 years, many fans firmly believe that it was the longest rivalry in tennis history. They have developed into pretty close friends over the years despite their rivalry. The iconic duo now dedicate a major chunk of their time to analyzing tennis for various broadcasting mediums.
