Polish player Iga Swiatek has her life’s most crucial task on her hands. After separation from her former coach, Swiatek didn’t attend Asian Swing. The moment she confirmed participation in the WTA finals, rumors brewed about her potential coach. As someone hinted at Naomi Osaka’s former coach, a reliable ex-manager of the sport confirms why the Polish needs to be careful about her steps.
Archutowski, Agnieszka Radwańska’s ex-manager had some interesting advice for Iga Swiatek. The WTA number one’s separation from her longtime coach Tomasz Wiktorowski surprised the entire fraternity with curiosities about how it would impact Swiatek’s future performances. While the Polish player hasn’t confirmed any names, rumors speculate Dawid Celt or Tomek Mozcek might mentor her.
Celt is the husband of Radwańska, who captained the Polish team in the Billy Jean King Cup finals. While he hasn’t confirmed anything concrete, his statements hint at their possible permanent collaboration. Whoever Swiatek might choose, Victor Archutowski had an essential reminder for Swiatek. While speaking about the WTA number one’s possible coaches, Archutowski mentioned Qinwen Zheng’s case.

Last year, her former coach Wim Fissette left her to train Naomi Osaka. This disappointed the Chinese player. Zheng accused Fissette of “immoral” actions as the Belgian coach breached their contract after mentoring the WTA number seven from 2019 to 2022. Fissette’s actions questioned the sanctity of the coach-pupil relationship, shedding light on loyalty. Referring to that, Archutowski said in an interview with a Polish publication, “She was bitter, and today one wonders whether, from Wim’s point of view, it wasn’t a mistake. Qinwen Zheng is now seventh in the world, having recently won Olympic gold in Paris. Loyalty is very valuable,” said Archutowski.
His statement highlighted how the breach of loyalty impacts the player, killing their motivation. Accepting Zheng’s public outburst against Fisette, Archutowski complimented Zheng for keeping up with her dreams despite that. However, his point of speaking is to raise Iga Swiatek’s awareness so she finds a coach who would be reliable for her future. Fissette also parted ways with Naomi Osaka, putting major stress on Archutowski’s point of view.
Fissette’s reference came to light after German journalist Andreas Thies brought up the Belgian coach’s name in an interview with Sport.pl. Highlighting Swiatek’s need to improve on diverse surfaces, Thies said, “There is one name that stands out: Wim Fissette. He knows how to deal with the best players; he wants to work with them, and he has helped every player he has trained. I think he will focus on Iga’s serve.” Given Fissette’s record with Qinwen Zheng and Angelique Kerber, he believed the Belgian could be a potential choice.

The WTA number one hasn’t hired a coach permanently, but she is reportedly working with Dawid Celt for the WTA finals. “Coach Wiktorowski joined my team for three seasons, when I strongly needed changes and a fresh approach to my game. His experience, analytical and strategic attitude, and enormous knowledge about tennis helped us to achieve things I’d never dreamed of only a few months after we started working together. Due to this important change on my team, I give myself a couple of weeks to start a cooperation with a new coach,” Swiatek mentioned.
