Can you recall the former women’s tennis player, Peaches Bartkowicz, who played a crucial role in bringing the WTA to where it is today? She was amongst the 9 women who broke out from the governing bodies of tennis in 1970 to create their own professional tour. And today, that professional tour is called the WTA tour. Peaches had a sister who also used to play tennis. Recently, a fan enquired about Peaches’ sister after seeing the picture of the 18-time Grand Slam champion, Chris Evert, taken in 1967.

Evert gave a one-word reply to the fan. Bartkowicz used to practice in public tennis courts in Hamtramck with her sister when she was seven years old. Everybody over there used to have nicknames. Her younger sister was given the nickname Plums, and she was called Peaches.

Plums played the finals of the Orange Bowl against Chris Evert!

Recently, a picture of Chris Evert from her junior years on the tennis circuit went viral on the internet. The picture was taken when she won the Orange Bowl tournament in 1967, where she defeated Peaches’ younger sister Plums in the final. The post was captioned saying, “Throwback photo of Orange Bowl junior girls 14s singles champ ⁦@ChrissieEvert⁩ after her final-round win over Plums Bartkowicz in 1967.

Over that post, a fan questioned, “Wait — Peaches has a sister named Plums … who made it to the Orange Bowl final?!?” However, after remembering that Peaches had a sister who advanced to the Orange Bowl championship match, the fan couldn’t believe his eyes. Subsequently, other fans also chimed in with their humoros views as they compared other types of fruits with the sisters.

Looking back at her spectacular junior tennis days, the 18-time Grand Slam champion answered the fan’s question about Peaches’ sister. She responded to the fans’ query with a simple “Yup”.

The Orange Bowl victory, a turning point for Evert

Before defeating Plums in the Orange Bowl finals, Chris Evert was always ranked second, just behind the youngest Bartkowicz sister. However, the Hall of Fame tennis player broke into the professional ranks thanks to her victory in the tournament at the age of 12.
