Jennifer Brady had to go on an unfortunate hiatus 2 years ago after she suffered a grave injury. Thankfully, the American player recovered and returned to the WTA Tour in July after Wimbledon. Playing her first Masters tournament after her return, Brady was able to find some level of redemption as she won her first match against Jelena Ostapenko. However, she was still a little rusty as she forgot to shake hands with the umpire. Embarrassed at the act, she expressed her apologies in the comment section, which saw a heartwarming reply from Jessica Pegula.

Brady had an unfortunate exit from the Western & Southern Open in 2021. While she led a great match, a freak accident took her out of the tournament. She later announced her hiatus and was absent from the court for two years. Although the comeback took a long time, the return was satisfying for the player and her fans.

Brady returned recently after a proper recovery. She managed to secure a spot in the Canadian Masters and played against none other than the former French Open champion Ostapenko in her opening bout. Not willing to let redemption get away from her, Brady secured a victory. She won even after suffering a bagel in the second set. Her victory took over her mind, and Brady forgot to shake the hands of the umpire.

She took notice of it on her X page and apologized for it, saying she’s shaking off some rust. However, Jessica Pegula came to quash her guilt as she wrote, “it’s ok last time we played was Covid so you’re just a little behind the times 😂“. Pegula referred to 2021 when Brady was forced to retire during the peak of Covid-19.

Brady forgot some post-match obligations after celebrating her blazing comeback. Given the state of her hiatus two years ago, she has all the right to enjoy the victory.
