‘Literally Never Seen the Sights’- Naomi Osaka in Awe With Skyscrapers of Chicago

Naomi Osaka last played at the 2022 Australian Open. She crashed out in the third round of the opening slam of the year. Failing to defend her 2021 title, Osaka decided to take some time off from the court.

Although she has been away from the court, she has been in regular touch with her fans and followers through her social media handles. The 4-time grand slam champion is expected to make a comeback in March. However, she is currently enjoying her time off-court. A resident of Beverly Hills, California, the former World No. 1, is roaming around the streets of Chicago, having a solo trip.

Today, 28th February, she took to her Instagram, uploading a story from Chicago. In the Instagram story, Osaka is seen sitting under a fallen tree in front of the iconic Cloud Gate. The two-time Australian Open opts for a heavy coat, a muffler, a beanie cap, and a pair of gloves. She further improves her style quotient by putting on a pair of eyewear.

Famous for its skyscrapers, Chicago doesn’t leave anyone unsurprised by its magnificent structures. Osaka was no less. Amused by the cloud tearing buildings, Osaka captioned her story, “S/0 to being in Chicago for 8 hours and exploring the city by myself cause I have literally never seen the sights.”

After suffering a third-round loss to Canadian Leylah Fernandez at the 2021 US Open, Naomi Osaka announced that she will be taking an indefinite break from the sport. She also suggested that’s she’s not sure when will she be playing her next competitive tournament. After a 5-month break, Osaka made a comeback at the 2022 WTA 250 Melbourne Summer Set 1. She sailed through the first three rounds reaching the semi-finals. However, the former World No. 1 withdrew from the semi-finals citing an abdominal injury.

Recovering from injury, Naomi entered the Australian Open, seeking to defend her 2021 title. She started her Melbourne Park campaign with a win over Camila Osorio. In the match, Osaka played dominantly and took just 1 hour and 8 minutes to beat Osorio in straight sets. Setting her eyes on the title, Osaka showed no mercy in outplaying American player Madison Brengle in the second round.

In the third round, she faced another American, Amanda Anisimova. Going toe-to-toe against each other, both the players indulged in some serious hitting, taking the match into the deciding set. The deciding set was no less. Not willing to give up, both the players raised there games, fighting for each point. However, failing to stand against Anisimova’s powerful groundstrokes, Osaka fell to the American in the 3rd set tie breaker, losing the match 4-6,6-3,6-7.

Being out of the tour since then, Osaka is expected to make a comeback at the Indian Wells, scheduled to start from 9th March.
