Earlier this month, Serena Williams announced the sad news about her retirement from the sport at the US Open this year. However, many fans wanted to see her in the doubles as well for one last time with her sister Venus. It seems like their wishes finally came true as both the sisters will play in New York, possibly for one last time.

Notably, Venus already received a wild card in the singles competition and Serena has a pretty tough draw. So, many wanted to see more of Serena and she will don the court for the final time in her career.

Venus and Serena Williams will play in doubles at US Open 2022

In a recent news, the US Open announced that Venus and Serena Williams will play in the doubles competition this year by receiving a wild card entry.

Although Serena already announced her retirement, Venus is yet to follow suit and the seven-time champion looks to continue on-tour and defy her age. Moreover, this will probably be the last time we will see both the Williams sisters playing doubles together.

Notably, both the sisters won 14 Grand Slam titles in doubles and showed their dominance as a pair on many occasions. Their first Grand Slam doubles title came at the French Open in 1999. In the same year, they won the US Open doubles title as well. The next year, they won the Wimbledon doubles title, as the pair looked unstoppable. In 2001, both Venus and Serena completed their career Grand Slam in doubles after winning the Australian Open doubles title.

Notably, both of them won the gold medal in the Olympics as well, as they became the first pair to win the Career Golden Slam in doubles. In terms of Grand Slam titles in doubles, the pair won 4 Australian Open titles, 2 US Open titles, 6 Wimbledon titles, and 2 French Open titles. Moreover, the pair remains unbeatable in the Wimbledon Championships finals throughout their career.

Venus and Serena had a tough draw at US Open 2022

When the singles draw finally came out, Venus and Serena both found out their first-round opponents, as the elder sister will play against a tricky opponent from Belgium, Alison Van Uytvanck. If the 7-time Grand Slam champion wins her first-round match, she could face the 2022 Wimbledon winner Elena Rybakina in the next round.

As for Serena, she will face Danka Kovinic in the first round and could face the no.2 seed Anett Kontaveit from Estonia. Safe to say, both the sisters got a tough draw.

Despite that, we could see more of them in the Open, as they are taking part in the doubles. As mentioned already, the pair won the US Open twice (1999 and 2009) and could possibly win their 3rd at this year’s US Open.
