Coco Gauff‘s Paris Olympics campaign was a total disaster. Or was it? The American talent entered the quadrennial event with a mighty fury to fetch the elusive gold, only to get washed out in the Games’ early rounds. While Gauff isn’t pleased about how her maiden Olympic run turned out, she has found a silver lining to her latest adventure in Paris.
The American pro participated in all three categories at the multi-sport event. With her dream run set in motion, the tennis world speculated Gauff to conjure noteworthy results and get the job done. However, things took a steep turn for the World No. 2. Not only did she endure back-to-back losses at the event, but Gauff’s emotional outburst during her second-round showdown against Donna Vekic shook fans. Nevertheless, the young talent has returned from Paris with a comforting prospect.
Prepping ahead of her title defense at the Cincinnati Masters, the former World No. 1 listed her takeaways from the Olympics. Gauff notably highlighted that her Paris adventure wasn’t a total snafu. Instead, she got a chance to cross paths with several American sporting icons and hoist her nation’s flag alongside basketball legend and US flag-bearer, LeBron James. Furthermore, the American took important “lessons” from this experience and hoped to instill those learnings to her advantage.

She said, “Obviously, it didn’t go how I wanted, but it’s an experience of a lifetime. The people I got to meet, the lessons I got to learn through that I think I’ll take for the rest of my life. I’m trying to be more aggressive, which I’m happy about, but I think my mentality can be more positive to myself on the court.”

While seated for a pre-tournament presser at the Canadian Open, the World No. 2 confidently stated that she will aim to perform in all three categories at the quadrennial event. “I didn’t experience a full effect so like kind of lost earlier in singles. At that point, I didn’t even double up yet so I would still do all three again if that’s a possibility in 28.”
The reigning US Open champion will next hit the courts of Cincinnati after enduring a premature exit at WTA Toronto. In hopes of defending her title, Gauff will commence her hardcourt campaign on Wednesday, August 14.
