Players are sponsored by major apparel brands when they reach the top. Jessica Pegula has been sponsored by Adidas for many years now. The German athletic wear company is responsible for her clothes and shoes for matches. However, their recent design for her has not sat well with fans. Her outfit in the China Open drew the ire of fans as they lambasted the company on Reddit.

Nike was once in the same boat as Adidas earlier this year. The American apparel brand, which has sponsored powerhouses like Roger Federer, drew much hate for their outfit for Rafael Nadal. Now, Adidas is experiencing the same heat.

The world number four in the WTA fought hard in the China Open final but lost to Veronika Kudermetova in straight sets. Despite her loss, much focus went on what Pegula wore. Tennis fans worldwide found the outfit abhorrent and let the $33.6 billion worth apparel company know just how they screwed up the outfit of Pegula.

This is not the only time a billion-dollar brand has received immense flak from fans. Earlier this year, Nike was on the receiving end of scathing comments when they revealed the outfit of Rafael Nadal if he had played in the French Open.

Nike bombarded for choice of outfit

Before Nadal announced that he would miss the entire season, many speculated a return to the French Open. To further fan the flames, Nike revealed the outfit he would don for the Roland Garros. While they were confident, fans did not like the design and color of the t-shirt for Rafa. They expressed their disappointment, and some fans resorted to insulting the brand for their lack of imagination.

While his performance would not be dependent on his outfit, fans hated the look, and they let the company know it. Now, Adidas is in the same boat as they are flaming them for their design. Now, it remains to be seen how the brand will perceive the feedback and change their decisions on the basis of them.
