The American tennis star previously concluded perhaps her best season, securing two title-winning runs in Montreal and Seoul. Jessica Pegula also enjoyed three runner-up finishes this season, including the WTA Finals. In the process, the 29-year-old has outperformed some of the biggest names, including current world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka and US Open champion Coco Gauff.

Notably, the former world No. 1 player, Tracy Austin, was all praise for her young compatriot during a conversation with Tennis.com. She said, “In Cancun, Pegula beat four Top 10 players—including world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka and US Open champion Coco Gauff—to reach the final. To think that as recently as the end of 2020, Jessica was ranked 62nd in the world. She really is the classic case of a late-bloomer.”

The American tennis veteran also lauded Pegula for her phenomenal performances despite the harsh weather conditions like rain and wind at the season-ending championship in Cancun. Austin asserted, “None of that fazed Jessica,” as she was hitting some ferocious groundstrokes on the court.
