Garbine Muguruza has made a notable impact on this year’s WTA Tour. The Spaniard clinched the WTA 500 titles in Dubai and Chicago gracefully. Just recently, she qualified for the WTA Finals taking place in Mexico next month. The Spaniard has enjoyed her 2021 season, but unfortunately, recently announced some unfortunate news about her appearances on tour.
The two-time Grand Slam champion also expressed concern about her ankle injury, which is taking more time than usual.

Garbine Muguruza to miss the Billie Jean King Cup
Recently, Garbine Muguruza announced some sad news about her upcoming event schedule. She took to Twitter to share that she won’t be competing at the Billie Jean King Cup this year, as she’s focusing on preparation for the WTA Finals.

She said, “Unfortunately, I will not be able to play the BJK Cup this year. The last months has obviously been very demanding with Olympics, Chicago and the new date of Indian Wells. I have not been home since July.”

She further added, “The recovery in my ankle is taking a little longer then [than] expected and i will spend the next weeks trying to get ready for Guadalajara (Mexico). I wish the team all the best and cheering for you to do very well.”
Muguruza’s achievement in 2021
Garbine Muguruza started by reaching the finals of the WTA Melbourne Open. However, Ashleigh Barty stunned Muguruza in straight sets. Her next notable performance came at Qatar Open, where for the second time in 2021, she got knocked out in the final of the competition.

The determined Muguruza came back strongly and triumphed gracefully at Dubai Tennis Championships. The Spaniard lifted her second title of the year at the Chicago Fall Tennis Classic, beating Ons Jabeur in a three-set thriller. Despite trailing behind by one set, Muguruza kept her composure and succeeded.

Following these titles victories, Garbine Muguruza entered the top 10 rankings of WTA and has booked her spot in Guadalajara for the year-end tournament. It’ll be interesting to see how a well-rested Muguruza performs there.
