In a statement from Tokyo, she revealed that a ruptured abdominal muscle prevented her from competing in the Billie Jean King Cup. “I thought I strained my back, but I did an MRI in Beijing and they said that I bulged a disc in my back and I also ruptured abdominal muscles,” Osaka explained to Japan’s Kyodo News agency. Thankfully, she is now focused on rest and recovery.

Despite these setbacks, Osaka shared a lighthearted glimpse into her fitness journey. On November 12th via Threads, expressing the struggles of training with humor, she wrote, “When the run was so difficult that you have to sit and think about your life afterward.” In another post, she shared a photo of an open road with the caption, “I thought it was over for me.” While her 2024 season didn’t go as planned, Osaka remains a formidable player with four Grand Slam singles titles and seven WTA Tour titles. Fans can look forward to her return in the 2025 season.

Currently ranked No. 59, Osaka is preparing to reclaim her spot in the tennis world.
