American tennis star Taylor Townsend had a brilliant start to her Australian Open campaign. She defeated Diane Parry of France to secure her place in the second round. While it was a special victory, it became even more special because it was her first Grand Slam singles win after coming back from the break. Earlier, the American was off the court for childbirth. After winning the match, Townsend spoke about the special bond she has with her son.

For female athletes, everything is different after they become a mother. Even though her career is still a priority, as a mother, the concern for their little one is always there. Taylor Townsend spoke about her off-season and the challenge of staying away from her son after winning her first match in the Australian Open.

“I’m sure you guys saw my Instagram thing where I was like, I’m going to miss you so much, crying and everything.”

In the Instagram post, we can see Townsend getting emotional with her son before leaving for Australia. Talking about the goal, the American further added, ” it’s incredibly important for me to make the times that I leave count. I talk to him, and before my matches, I look at pictures and videos and just remind myself of, like, why I’m doing this.”

The biggest sacrifice a mother has to make is staying away from her kid. We hope that Townsend does full justice to the time she is spending away from her son.

Townsend got a wildcard to the Australian Open

Staying away from the court for a long time affected the American’s ranking. While the American was all set to play qualifiers for the first Grand Slam of the year, the Australian Open organizers treated her with a wildcard entry to the tournament.

The American got the wildcard entry along with compatriot Christopher Eubanks and her first-round rival Diane Parry. 2020 US Open champion Dominic Thiem also got the Wildcard entry after missing out in the last edition.
