Against all odds, Jessica Pegula’s astonishing escape helped her clinch her fifth WTA singles title. After getting back on the court after a break, the 30-year-old represented an amazing feat with a victory. Looking into that, recently, Serena Williams’ former coach, Rennae Stubbs, applauded her on her amazing victories, including the final, on the same day.
The Australian tennis coach took to her Twitter handle to share her take on how the American player not only made a successful comeback but at the same time achieved two victories, a semi-final and a final. She wrote, “CONGRATS @JPegula!! I mean what an incredible comeback from injury! Damn!”
Pegula’s win was a multifaceted emotional victory. The American, who missed the entire red-clay season with a rib injury, had to contend with many weather delays this week. This included her semifinal match against Coco Gauff, which was dramatically postponed while she was up a set and 3-1 in the second-set tiebreak.

Subsequently, Pegula won four of the five points she played to quickly end the match and put herself up for eventual victory in the championship later that day. After that, for the finals just a few hours later, she faced Anna Kalinskaya. Unfortunately for Kalinskaya, it was a heartbreak, as it was her first career grass-court final.
This victory marks the 30-year-old American’s fifth WTA Tour title and her first on grass. Last year, she showcased her prowess by reaching the quarterfinals at Wimbledon, where she lost in a hard-fought three-set match to the eventual champion, Marketa Vondrousova. The 30-year-old Pegula is now scheduled to compete at the Eastbourne International before heading to Wimbledon, which begins on July 1.

However, ahead of the tournament, with this victory, while she has proven her worth, she is also one of the tough competitors to look out for at Wimbledon. Just a few days ago, the former US Open champion, Andy Roddick, made a promising statement about Pegula’s winning odds for the upcoming Grand Slam event.
Andy Roddick is Jessica Pegula’s winning odds at Wimbledon
In a recent live webcast from Tennis Channel, Andy Roddick talked about Jessica Pegula’s chances at Wimbledon and praised her outlook on the competition and game. He stated, “I am a massive fan. I think it’s potentially her biggest upside, the ability to switch directions, the low center of gravity. The fact that she gets a little help on her serve her ability to come forward, return, it all works on grass.”

Roddick added, “I understand she hasn’t been past the quarters. But the betting odds right now have her severely undercooked, especially if she gets enough matches.” acknowledging her prior performance. It’s evident from the American’s observations that the former US Open winner is willing to wager on Pegula’s victory at Wimbledon this year.
