In today’s world, tennis has become more fast-paced than ever before. Gone are those days when the players used to hit shots at an easy-going pace, with a bigger focus on serve-and-volley. Now, the faster and more powerful you are, the better you can be. However, despite the changes in the landscape of the sport, many still believe that Jessica Pegula, a top American WTA sensation, lacks pace in her shots.

Currently playing in the WTA Finals in Cancun, Mexico, Pegula, in an interview, busted down the myth that most of people have blinded themselves with. Not only this, but she also made an honest confession about her shots while claiming that what people think may not always be right.

Jessica Pegula makes an honest confession about her hitting

In a recent interview at the WTA Finals, Jessica Pegula addressed a misconception about her game. After winning her match against Aryna Sabalenka, Pegula took a moment to clarify doubts over whether she hits as hard as some of her peers. She said that she doesn’t know why people think that way, but emphasized that it is true that she hits hard.

“I hit really hard. People don’t seem to think I hit hard… like commentators. Like seriously. Everyone is like ‘I don’t know why they say that.’ I think it’s because it looks like I’m not. I hit flatter. I don’t hit as heavy. But I hit hard. I don’t get that,” said Pegula in the interview.

The WTA Finals campaign has started in style for the 29-year-old American star. Coming into the tournament, she has already stunned some of the heavy favorites. In the group stage, she managed to get past Elena Rybakina in her first match.

In her second group match, she faced a formidable challenge from Aryna Sabalenka. However, the American proved to be too strong for her, defeating her in straight sets. With a scoreline of 6-4, 6-3, she secured an easy win and will now be facing Maria Sakkari in her next match.

Thus, she would be looking to carry forward her momentum going into the third match. Not only this, but she would also look to make it as far as she can in her quest to title triumph here in Cancun, Mexico.
