Jelena Ostapenko‘s bright-colored clothes from a Latvian brand have garnered a lot of compliments recently. People not only called her “fashion queen” but also revealed their amusement about how “she is always up to date with trends.” While Ostapenko became a fashion icon with this brand, she finally delved deeper into how challenging it was for her to start working with them and create an image, that represents the crisis points of her country.

During her Italian Open 2024 tour press conference, this WTA spoke about her fashion styles and dressing choices in detail. “I like to mix colors, bright colors with darker ones, the previous dress was orange, and I think that wouldn’t look as good on clay because then it’s orange with orange,” said Osapenko after donning a magnificent black and pink dress by DK ONE.

However, this Latvian tennis star reveals the struggles behind her collaboration with this activewear brand and how it empowers her country. “It’s never easy when you’re first starting something, Latvia is such a small country and they don’t have the same opportunities as a big country, so we have to make the most of what we get. I feel like it’s getting better because at first we had some very simple dresses, now we’re trying skirts and different things,” said Ostapenko.

During the Australian Open 2022 tour, the media caught this Latvian WTA star not partnering with Adidas anymore. That was the first time Ostapenko’s collaboration with Latvian activewear brand DK One came to light. Channeling the “Play and win” slogan, DK One made Ostapenko a fashionista on the court much like her electrifying performance.

Ostapenko has previously also spoken about her conscious choice to collaborate with a Latvian native clothing brand. On the show of Zabiiako & Kasatkina, Ostapenko spoke about the challenges they face to create a desirable outfit. “I wanted to wear what I liked for a very long time. Some colors and stuff, but it’s not really easy. It’s really hard, actually. It’s a hard process and all this takes a lot of time. There are also not so many materials and fabrics in a country like Latvia. Sometimes it’s hard, but we try our best. I work with the girl who owns the project, and we try our best to make beautiful clothes.”

While Ostapenko’s fans are drooling over her DK One outfit, they are delighted to know that former tennis player Daniela K founded this Latvian activewear brand. Ostapenko shared the founder’s motivation behind this brand- “The story was that some of the tennis clothes didn’t really fit her, the sizes and shapes, “So she thought of doing the patterns and prints herself. She said it was really tough, but she decided to do it because she had so many issues with the clothes. It all looks very easy, but when you start going through all the steps—Oh, my God!”
