Did not go as expected! The world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka faced a devastating defeat in the recently concluded Australian Open women’s final to none other than American Madison Keys in a grueling final showdown. Despite being the heavy favorite to win the tie due to the 4-1 H2H record, the loss of Sabalenka came as no less than a heart-break! Specifically, to her multimillionaire beloved Georgios Frangulis. However, just after the devastating result, Georgios consoles himself with a moment of magic as he shares a delightful moment spent with the 2016 Academy Award winner, who came up with a surprise visit at the AO final round.

The final between the Belarusian and American took place at the Rod Laver Arena yesterday. It was their 6th meeting at the WTA tour, 3rd in a major Grand Slam where the Belarusian came victorious in the previous two editions of their Grand Slam meet, notably in the 2023 Wimbledon QF and US Open semis. However, this time, the tables turned as Madison came victorious in a three-set tie and lifted her maiden Grand Slam. Despite the loss, Sabalenka’s beau just came up with a photo with both of them, along with global cinema sensation, Jackie Chan.

Just a couple of hours ago, Georgios posted a picture in his Instagram story, featuring her girlfriend Sabalenka and none other than legendary martial artist Jackie Chan, while captioning “At least we met Jackie Chan (Which is cool af)”. But, wait! Have you ever wondered what drew the global sensation to Melbourne Park before the women’s final? Well, the reason might be the Belarusian’s coaching staff!

Anton Dubrov, the coach of Sabalenka, and her fitness guide Jason Stacy, share the same background: martial arts. And Jackie Chan’s sudden presence at the Rod Laver Arena might be related to the two coaches, as speculated by Sam Smith, one of the commentators of AO 2025.

Not only this, even AO’s official Instagram page posted a video of Chan on their official handle, captioning “Jackie Chan is at the AO, I repeat JACKIE CHAN is at the AO 🫶😱,” just before the final clash. Even just after Sabalenka clinches the second set 6-2, the AO Instagram page posted a video clip of Jackie Chan, quoting “Jackie Chan is impressed watching Sabalenka v Keys work their magic tonight on RLA 🪄 #AO2025,”.

With Day 14’s matches concluded and Keys securing a victory, Belarusian’s hopes of achieving a three-peat, following in Martina Hingis’s footsteps, have been put to rest for now. However, despite the defeat, Sabalenka did not hesitate to share her emotions like every time, stating nobody remembers the finalist, just after the match.

With 5 double faults and facing 29 winners from Keys’ end, Sabalenka bid goodbye to this year’s AO, which also demolished her dream of three consecutive Australian Open wins. Despite losing only one set in the QF against Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, her AO campaign was a banger, winning every game in flying colors before the final. However, the final was disappointing despite their previous H2H record of 4-1. And, just after the match, the Belarusian shares her opinion about the grueling showdown Down Under.

Just after the match, the Belarusian shared her emotions while taking the finalist medal and said, “I think when you get to the point of finals, it’s trophy or nothing,” she said. “Nobody remembers the finalist, you know? Nobody put, like, next to the winner (the) finalist name. At this point, yeah, I go for titles. Of course, I have to be anyway proud of myself with the finals, three finals in a row. That’s something crazy. I hope that next year I’ll come back as a better player, and I’ll hold Daphne (the Daphne Akhurst Memorial Cup) one more time,” she added.

That’s not all! The Belarusian seemed frustrated just after the match as she smashed her racquet by the side of the court. And, at the trophy presentation, she clears the air about her behavior just after the match.

“There definitely was a bit of frustration because I was so close to achieve something crazy. When you’re out there, you’re fighting, but it seems like everything going not the way you really want to go. I just needed to throw those negative emotions at the end just so I could give a speech, not stand there being disrespectful. I was just trying to let it go and be a good person, be respectful. It’s OK. I mean, I’m the one who knows that after tough losses, there is good wins. So I’ll keep working and make sure that next time, if I’ll be in this situation, I’ll play definitely better,” Sabalenka concluded.

Despite the heartbreak, it’s been a positive sign for Sabalenka to conclude the Down Under story for this year with a Brisbane International title and AO finalist trophy. With this form, how many trophies do you think she can win this year? Share your thoughts below!
