Emma Raducanu wants to play in the upcoming French Open. However, she is not 100% sure about it. The young Brit player recently suffered a lower back injury. The injury forced her to retire mid-match during her first-round clash with Bianca Andreescu in Rome. Moreover, the injury not just forced Emma to have an unpleasant exit at her Rome debut, but has also opened up room for questions regarding her Roland Garros participation.

Emma Raducanu on participating in Roland Garros
Post her mid-match retirement against Andreescu, Emma attended the post-match press conference. During the press conference, she opened up about her injury. Going ahead in the conversation, she was questioned whether she would consider giving herself a little break by skipping the French Open and make a comeback on grass courts.
Emma kicked off her clay-court season with a quarterfinal loss in Stuttgart. Going ahead, she next played the Madrid Open, where she suffered a third-round exit. After having a resting time of seven days, Emma next entered Rome.
Answering the question, Emma recalled the learnings of her clay court tournaments, saying, “I’ve got no idea. I mean, obviously I would not want to miss the French Open. I mean, the whole clay season leads up to it. I think the last few weeks have been really positive. I’ve learnt a lot about myself and my game has definitely improved on this surface.”
Till now, Emma looked slightly confident about playing Roland Garros. However, it was when she expressed herself on her back injury that raised questions about her participation. She asserted she needs to focus on getting her back right, however long it takes. She also admitted that her match with Andreescu wasn’t right for her.

She said, “I need to make sure my back is fully right, however long that takes. I need to just keep on it. I don’t want to play my next match with a feeling of limitation because I think that I learnt my lesson from this week, when to push, when not to push. Probably today wasn’t right.”

The injury hit year of Raducanu
Raducanu has had a not so pleasant year so far. The 2021 US Open has incurred a number of injuries since the start of the 2022 season. She first suffered blisters in her racquet hand at the Australian open. Recovering from the blisters, she next entered the Guadalajara Open. However, not having her stars aligned, she was forced to withdraw mid-match after suffering a hip injury. She further suffered a stiff back in Indian Wells.
