Coco Gauff‘s dream run at the Italian Open is finally over. Coming into the tournament as a hot favorite, she made her way into the semi-finals and faced Iga Swiatek in a gripping encounter. However, she could not stand the Polish star’s clay court dominance and suffered a straight 6-4, 6-3 defeat. With her defeat, another American is now out of the tournament.

That being said, only Danielle Collins and Tommy Paul are the American hope alive in the event. But, despite facing elimination she has made sure that she roots for Danielle Collins in the event. In the post-match interview, she came ahead and talked about taking the title glory to America after a long time. While suggesting that both these stars are her good friends on tour, she suggested that she would be rooting for Danielle Collins now to bring the clay court glory home.

“I think today Tommy, he just played really well. I think Danielle has been on a string of wins lately. I think we just all root for each other and push for each other. Specifically, Tommy and Danielle are people that I always root for, even though I wouldn’t necessarily say we’re super close. We speak all the time. Danielle and I, I love her. Me and her got closer after the Billie Jean King Cup we did together,” said Coco Gauff in the post-match interview.

“I was hoping maybe I could win and Tommy could win and it would be an American sweep. But if it’s not me, I would love for it to be Danielle. If this is her farewell tour, I think she deserves it a lot. I was hoping I could win today to play her in the final,” she further concluded.

“I wanted to be aggressive, which I felt like I did. I think I missed some balls in some clutch moments. I wish my first-serve percentage was higher. I was winning a lot of first-serve points and I knew that would be key to win today. I didn’t get in as many as I would like to,” Gauff suggested in the interview.
