With the French Open coming up in a few days, all eyes are on top players like Coco Gauff, as they prepare for the year’s second major. The top stars are playing at the ongoing Italian Open to warm up for the clay-court Grand Slam tournament. Even as Gauff has reached the semifinal in Rome, her performances have often come under the scanner. A similar incident occurred while she was playing Iga Swiatek in the last 4.

Gauff was 4-4 and 40-0 up on her serve in the first set. However, she lost 3 quick points and made successive double faults to hand Swiatek the crucial break. It eventually proved decisive as the Polish star won the first set 6-4. Meanwhile, fans weren’t happy with her display and vented out their frustration on social media. One of them said, “Gauff getting broken from being up 40 luv is WILD” indicating she still has progress to make.

Subsequently, another fan took note of Gauff’s performances against Swiatek in the past and mentioned, “Coco gauff mentality against swiatek goes out the window every time” and indeed, playing against the World No. 1 is no easy task.

One Twitter user had a brutal reaction to Gauff throwing away the first set and commented, “What a piece of sh*t is Gauff 2 double foul in a row.”

Meanwhile, one of the fans sarcastically commented on Gauff’s shocking display in the opening set against Swiatek. The comment read, “Lool Gauff 40-0 up n let Iga break her. Joker.”

Lastly, one fan was tired of watching Gauff commit double faults and said, “Double faults dooming Gauff yet again and gets broken for IGA to serve for the 1st set.”

This is not the first time in the recent past that Gauff’s performance has come under the scanner from her fans. She faced the wrath of her fans for a shaky display earlier in the tournament.

Familiar problems for Coco Gauff on display

While Gauff’s return game is second to none, she isn’t the best when it comes to service games. Time and again, she has struggled with her serves and the ongoing Italian Open was a glaring example of this. During the course of this event, the American sensation has had double faults at crucial junctures, which hasn’t gone down well with her fans.

In the pre-quarterfinal match against Badosa, Gauff served as many as 11 double faults. Further, she also had double faults at crucial junctures in the opening set against Swiatek, which eventually proved to be the difference.

If Gauff has to dig deep in the French Open, she’ll have to level up her service game. For this, she has adequate time and will look to hit the ground running after bowing out of the Italian Open.
