Love has many forms and can come to anyone, anytime. Ask Garbine Muguruza, who found her true love in quite an accidental fashion. While she was preparing to play in the 2021 US Open, Muguruza bumped into Arthur Borges, a model, on the streets of New York. It was love at first sight for the two and the rest is history. Recently, the Spanish star had an interesting correlation with her love story.
Borges follows tennis and since their accidental meetup, has gone on to become Muguruza’s biggest fan. Subsequently, he regularly cheered for Muguruza from the stands during her matches as their bond grew further.

Further, she went on to add, “We met in the street in New York, it was love at first sight, was one of those boring days I didn’t know what to do so I go for a walk on Central Park as always and just bumped on him. And it’s like, wait a minute, you are very handsome, who are you? And he’s a tennis fan so he recognized me.”

A couple of years after their first meeting, Muguruza and Borges got engaged. Around that time, she took a break from the sport to focus on her personal life and mental health. Like her first meeting with Borges, Muguruza’s engagement was also quite interesting. However, she also had an emotional moment after Borges proposed to her.
When Muguruza started crying after Borges’ proposal
Love defined the two and Muguruza and Borges are very close to each other. While they were enjoying their time back home last year, Borges proposed to Muguruza. Although it was coming, Muguruza hadn’t expected the proposal at that moment, which made her feel weird.

Expressing her sentiment of that moment, Muguruza said, “It felt weird. I was thinking something else and then when he proposed, I started crying. I didn’t know how to react. I said yes in the midst of tears. It was very romantic.”
After announcing her retirement from tennis earlier this year, wedding bells might be ringing soon for the power couple. They had also made clear their marriage plans after their engagement and planned to marry later this year.
