Danielle Collins has reached her maiden Grand Slam final at the Australian Open 2022. The American has continued to show her phenomenal form, beating the 7th seed Iga Swiatek in straight sets to reach the last two. 

The current World No. 30 credited her long training and dedication for this result in the on-court interview. She also mentioned her father’s efforts in helping her train in the early years.

Danielle Collins is known for her strong groundstrokes, often leaving her opponents uncomfortable in matching her pace. 

Collins reiterated that results do not show up overnight

Danielle was full of emotions winning her semi-final match at the Australian Open. She credited her constant dedication and hard work for her success. 

She said, “It’s been such a journey and it doesn’t happen overnight. It’s so many years of hard work and hours on an early age on court… All the early mornings my dad would get up with me and practice before school. It’s incredible.”

Collins looked solid from the start of her semi-final match. Showing an aggressive style of play, she hit 7 aces, coupled with 27 winners, leaving Swiatek struggling to match up.

Danielle Collins started her 2022 season at the Australian Open. Entering Melbourne Park as a strong contender, she beat fellow American Caroline Dolehide in straight sets. After having a confident start, she next took on Croatia’s Ana Konjuh, winning in straight sets, yet again.

The third round saw Collins dropping her first set of the tournament. However, she made an incredible comeback and took the next two sets to beat Denmark’s Clara Tauson. In the 4th set, Collins took on the 19 seed Elise Mertens, beating her in 3 sets.

Danielle entered the quarter-finals of the Happy Slam for the second time in her career, after 2019, where she faced French player Alize Cornet. She showed no mercy in the match, beating Cornet in straight sets yet again. Entering the semi-final with full confidence, Collins took control of the match from the start. Playing her natural game with heavy groundstrokes, she took just 1 hour 18 minutes to beat 7th seed, Iga Swiatek, 6-4,6-1.

Collins will be eyeing her maiden Grand Slam title, as she will face the world number one Ashleigh Barty in the final of the Australian Open 2022.
