After adding Brad Gilbert to her coaching team, Coco Gauff has reached unprecedented heights on the tour. Amid the American tennis coach’s presence in the players’ box during her campaigns, the young WTA sensation clinched not just her maiden Grand Slam title but also her first title in a WTA 1000-category tournament. While his presence proved vital, Gilbert’s absence has resulted in varying stats for Gauff.

With Gilbert present in her player’s box, the American tennis prodigy secured a triumphant run at the 2023 Citi Open by defeating the fourth-seeded Greek, Maria Sakkari, in the championship game. Gauff then won her first WTA 1000 title at the Cincinnati Masters, where she overcame Karolína Muchová in the finals. Later, in her home Grand Slam event, the 20-year-old player was crowned champion after her phenomenal win against Aryna Sabalenka. Back in the 2023 season, Gauff also secured semifinal finishes at both the China Open and the WTA Finals.

With the American coach not present in her box, the reigning US Open champion failed to secure a place in the latter rounds of different tournaments. The second-seeded Gauff tasted a first-round defeat at the hands of her unseeded opponent, Kateřina Siniaková, at the Qatar Open.
