Tennis as a sport not only helps build strong connections between teammates and co-players but also blesses lucky ones with the bond of love. Swiss WTA star Belinda Bencic is one of those who found a reliable partner in her coach Martin Hromkovic. The couple began dating in November 2018 and ever since, their bond has only grown stronger. Besides their rife relationship, a major question that arouses winds of curiosity in the minds of the fans is: Are they married? Here’s what we know about their current status.
Belinda Bencic has not made any official announcement of her marriage yet, but the Swiss publication 20 Minuten quoted her manager Marjin Bal as saying, “Belinda and Martin got married in a civil ceremony during her pregnancy.” He also shared that they are planning a bigger celebration in the future: “They will have a more formal, official wedding with all the trimmings later this year or next year.”
Although the couple never made a public announcement about their marriage, there were a few subtle hints along the way. In the first week of the New Year, Bencic posted a short, humorous video on her Instagram story about what it feels like to be married. She reacted to the clip with laughing emojis, which may have hinted at her new relationship status. Later, during an interview on the SRF talk show Gredig Direkt, she accidentally referred to Hromkovic as her husband. While discussing the parental duties, she said: “I have complete trust in my husband and my mommy.”

Belinda Bencic makes a sensational comeback to tennis
Months after being out of the tennis court because of her pregnancy, Bencic, during the United Cup 2024, revealed how she’s taking things slowly yet steadily. “Well, I’m definitely improving every day. So that’s very motivating for me to see improvement. I think my tennis is there. I think that’s like riding a bike. I don’t think that you lose that,” said Bencic.
Being a new tennis mom can be a bit overwhelming but not for Bencic. “I think we’ve adapted really well. That’s definitely one thing that Bella taught us in the last eight months, to be very spontaneous and not to be, like, not to plan everything, because she’s gonna do it her way anyway, and she doesn’t really have a routine yet. It’s always about adapting, and problem-solving once the problem is there and not, like, overthinking everything,” she further added.

On her comeback on October 30, when she played at the ITF Germany 16A event, Bencic could only make it to the round of 16. Coming into the new season, she started her campaign at the Adelaide International where she made it through to the round of 16 from the qualifiers. Then at the Australian Open, she lost to Coco Gauff in the fourth round. However, her grit and determination paid off, as she finally reached a tour-level final at the WTA Abu Dhabi.
Having lost just two sets so far in Abu Dhabi, Bencic looks unstoppable. With just one step away from title glory, she will be looking to give everything she has, as she takes on the American sensation Ashlyn Krueger later today.
