Young shot Amanda Anisimova is ready to show her over-shoulder magic once again at the Charleston Open. Although she temporarily left tennis due to injury and physical ailments, she didn’t discontinue her studies. This 22-year-old American player recently opened up about her studies being a constant source of momentum during her recovery, providing mental resilience amid the chaos of the sport.

After defeating Alizé Cornet, in the first round of the Charleston Open, in an interview with Tennis Channel, she talked about working on her studies, while getting transferred as a normal student after taking online classes for a long time. She stated, “Yeah, so I was doing online and then I was like you know what I am able to transfer to in person and I went to Nova Southeastern and I honestly really enjoyed it.”

On the other hand, she also highlighted how not only did she enjoy getting into a totally different field than tennis, but at the same time, it helped her in her recovery stage just the way she wanted. As a 22-year-old, while she has left a lot of normal student life behind her to pursue tennis, this was her opportunity to relish those moments once again.

Anisimova added, “I mean, I always like enjoyed the school type of lifestyle you know a little bit of normality. So yeah, I just I really enjoyed it and it kept me busy that’s something I also wanted to do for myself is just to have a busy schedule, something other than tennis. Yeah, it was really good.”

The 22-year-old decided to step back from the tennis scene during her four-month sabbatical and pursue a taste of normalcy instead. She hardly ever used a racquet; she saved it for lighthearted games with pals. She took a semester sabbatical from competition and immersed herself in her studies at Florida’s Nova Southeastern University.

The American tennis rising star, sold her paintings to raise money for humanitarian causes, pursuing her growing interest in painting instead of sitting around doing nothing. She pursued volunteer work and impulsive road trips with friends in addition to her artistic pursuits. However, at the same time, she dwelled into her break, just to get back stronger than ever.

Moreover, a few months ago, in a candid interview, she also talked about the same, emphasizing the importance of the tennis break. She stated, “It was just nice to take a break from the chaotic lifestyle of a tennis player and reset as a human. I think that break and having more than two weeks off for the first time in my life was just very refreshing. I gained a lot of energy back in myself and happiness.”

Most importantly, she enjoyed her normal life away from the never-ending cycle set by competition dates, which enabled her to completely immerse herself in activities and experiences outside of the sport.
