Naomi Osaka has been a formidable force on the court; however, she is a totally disparate person the moment she steps off the court. The Japanese tennis star has often opened up about how she has an introverted and shy nature, which makes her different from other players on the tour. However, after her comeback this season, the 4-time singles Grand Slam champion now wants to see a change in her ‘introverted’ demeanor, according to her recent disclosures.

In an interview with The Guardian, Osaka recently talked about how she no longer wants to be that person who navigates the locker room with her head down. The WTA superstar is now trying hard to get out of her comfort zone as she is trying to make new friends. “I’m trying my best, trying to make friends.” Osaka said. As she is now exploring different places, the Japanese player is also observing people, an activity that she finds quite interesting.

“I was walking around the city the other day and I find [observing people] so interesting,” Osaka futher added. Being an introverted person before taking on this new demeanor, the former number-one player opened up about how she never really ‘noticed’ what everyone else was doing. “Everyone has their own stuff going on. Before, I was in a bubble, I didn’t even really notice or take the time to see what everyone else is doing.”

Even though Osaka may have been able to overcome her introverted personality, she still has to work on changing one of her other traits.

“My delusional trait is…”– Naomi Osaka talks about one of her other characteristics

In the same interview, the WTA player opened up about her delusional side, which is one of the characteristics that she has had since childhood. “My delusional trait is probably me daydreaming and inventing a scenario I want to happen and sometimes they do happen,” she said. However, after returning to the tour this season, the 4-time singles Grand Slam champion now needs to temper these so-called delusions, as she is currently outside the top 100 rankings.

As she is still far from emulating her past triumphant performances, Osaka has realized that she needs to be patient and that tennis is a gradual process. “I’m the type of person who wants things to happen quickly, but I’m just understanding that tennis has come such a long way and these are the best players in the world,” the Japanese tennis player said.
