In the early 2000s era in tennis, Serena Williams was a dominant force on the WTA Tour as she outperformed almost every other top player. Especially in 2003, which is also known as the “Serena Slam” season, she won her first Australian Open title and secured the unique feat of holding all four major titles at once. How karaoke turned out to be therapy for Serena Williams

Essy and Emmy, the popular show hosts of ‘The Choices We Make’ podcast, recently detailed the story of the Williams sisters, the two athletes who changed the WTA with their prowess. Speaking of the 41-year-old icon, Essy opened up about the adverse phase of her illustrious journey. The Queen of the Court was only 21 years old when she won her first Australian Open title. It was all going well for her until she picked up a knee injury in that same season.

Essy detailed the same, “In 2003, Serena won her first Australian Open, and at the same time, she held four titles at once. She then dubbed the “Serena Slam”. That was a hard year for her because that year she had to have a knee surgery and her injuries kept her away from the game for a while and that then dropped her in her rankings.”

Apart from this, the devastating news of the murder of their elder sister, Yetunde Price, shattered her. Later, the former tennis ace discovered karaoke, which turned out to be sort of a rehab during the adverse phase. Speaking about it, Essy said, “But during that time, she discovered karaoke and for her, she used that as like a sort of rehab and that really really helped her out a lot with her healing.”
