Mirra Andreeva, transitioning from “Giant Slayer” to consistent contender, is making waves on the WTA tour. Fresh off her historic Dubai Tennis Championships victory, where she became the youngest WTA 1000 champion at the age of 17 years and 298 days, she’s now reached the Indian Wells Open quarterfinals, extending her winning streak to nine matches. Her next opponent is Elina Svitolina, whom Andreeva describes as “a great fighter” who “chases every ball” and plays “more aggressively.” Svitolina, having secured her own impressive victory, presents a formidable challenge. The question remains: can she halt Andreeva’s remarkable run?

Elina Svitolina vs Mirra Andreeva: Preview

Well, Elina Svitolina has already snapped Jessica Pegula’s seven-match winning streak. She defeated the in-form American by 5-7,6-1,6-2 in the R16. With this win, Svitolina has now reached her first WTA 1000 QF since Rome 2021 and the first on hard courts since Miami 2021. In fact, this is also her first QF appearance in this tournament after 2019’s edition.

Prediction: Andreeva will win this battle in three sets

Although Elina Svitolina has previously reached the SF (2019) of this tournament, I’m keeping Mirra Andreeva slightly ahead in this contest. Reason? Well, Andreeva (11) currently has a win-loss record of 16-3 in 2025, whereas it’s just 9-4 for Svitolina (23).

What’s your perspective on:

Can Mirra Andreeva's youthful energy outshine Elina Svitolina's experience in their first-ever showdown?

Have an interesting take?

This is Elina Svitolina‘s second QF appearance this season. The previous one was at the 2025 AO. Her resurgence in this season has truly been extraordinary, but Andreeva has been in a better form this season. Other than her form, we’ve also seen her getting some incredible support from the crowd in her previous match. So, this support could well give her some confidence before entering the match against someone like Svitolina.

Now, if we take a look at their playing styles, Elina Svitolina is a defensive baseliner who excels at transitioning defense into offense. She loves hitting low-risk winners, and her powerful groundstroke, particularly her backhand, is one of her lethal weapons. Her deep, penetrating groundstrokes, both forehand and backhand, can cause a few troubles for Andreeva in this match. However, her vulnerable second serve and occasional struggles against aggressive players will be the biggest concern for her fans in this match. Why?

Well, Mirra Andreeva is known for her aggressive baseline game. She possesses venomous groundstrokes in her armory, and she is often seen forcing errors out of her opponents with her powerful shots. Even her wide range of shots can be a bit tricky to handle at times on the hard courts. Other than that, her incredible agility and court coverage are some of the most talked about aspects of her game. Looking at all these aspects and her current form, I’m going for the 17-year-old over the experienced campaigner this time!
