There, a teammate comes across me, and he tells me, ‘Your player is just the one in front of you.’ There we showed up, and everything went very well; the rest is history,” Jose Hernandez stated.

He is not only Yue Yuan’s first non-Chinese coach, but their collaboration has accomplished several significant milestones in a very short span of time. The 25-year-old defeated Daria Kasatkina to extend her winning run to nine games. She will face Coco Gauff in her next Indian Wells match.

“It was crazy: her first WTA title at my first tournament. I’m also her first non-Chinese coach, well, a lot of first times, it doesn’t make sense. We met on Sunday at breakfast, the following Sunday we were lifting the trophy,” pointed out Hernandez.
