Taylor Townsend had a stellar season last year in doubles. She made her Top 5 debut, won two WTA 500 titles, reached her first WTA 1000 finals, and also made it to the finals of the 2023 French Open doubles event. But when it comes to singles, she has yet to make a mark on the bigger stage. Townsend entered her first professional-level tournament at the age of 14 in 2010. Then two years later, Townsend won the AO junior tournament.

However, the 27-year-old Chicago-born tennis star didn’t have a great start to her 2024 campaign. Although she managed to reach the R16 at the Adelaide Internationals, Townsend was shown the exit door in her first match at the 2024 Australian Open by Paula Badosa. She faced a similar early exit in her next tournament in Puerto Vallarta. But Townsend finally sealed a victory in her first match at the ATX Open but got defeated in her next match at the hands of China’s Yue Yuan.

Taylor Townsend’s best performance at the Indian Wells came in 2013,2014,2015 when she reached the second round. But last year she faced defeat in the qualifiers at the hands of Ukraine’s Lesia Tsurenko. What will happen this time around? Can Iva Jovic create a historic moment in her career by defeating Townsend in the qualifiers on Monday?

She was the runner-up at the inaugural edition of the International Junior Championships held at the site of the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells last year. Then in 2024, she won the Australian Open Juniors doubles event. Recently she reached the finals of the ITF USA 08A. The teenager looks in red-hot form, right?

No matter how good a run of form a player might be. But the experiences in the game always need to be taken into account while making any predictions. And, talking about experiences, Taylor Townsend has been on the professional tour for almost 12 years now. Jovic played a final at ITF Spring less than 24 hours ago, so fatigue can also be a deciding factor in the game. Thus, Townsend has a higher chance of ending on the winning side.

But Iva Jovic, on the other hand, is a player to watch out for in the near future. She surely has the potential, and she’s only 16. Even if she loses the match, there’s still a lot of time left for her to get where she aspires to reach in her tennis career. Irrespective of the outcomes, she’ll surely end up learning quite a few lessons from this match. And, that’s very important for the growth of her career. So nothing to lose for Jovic.
