After her first-round knockout at the San Diego Open, Beatriz Haddad Maia will now look to make amends at this outdoor hardcourt event, where she has started her campaign on a high note. Entering the tournament as the 12th-seeded participant, the Brazilian tennis sensation swept aside her Slovak opponent Rebecca Šramková in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2, at the BNP Paribas Open.

Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, on the other hand, is coming to the WTA 1000 tournament after her quarterfinal finish at the San Diego Open. The Russian tennis star, who is the 22nd seed, defeated her Spanish opponent, Nuria Parrizas-Diaz, with a score of 6-3, 6-1.

Haddad Maia vs Pavlyuchenkova: Head-to-Head

The round-of-32 match between Haddad Maia and Pavlyuchenkova at the BNP Paribas Open will also mark their third meeting on the WTA circuit. In both their confrontations at the Adelaide International and Hong Kong Tennis Open, the Russian player overcame her Brazilian opponent and currently has a 2-0 in their H2H record.

Even though Pavlyuchenkova has defeated her on two occasions, the top-ranked Brazilian player is the favorite to win this round of 32 match. While having three WTA singles under her belt, Haddad Maia has currently established herself in the top 15 rankings on the tour. She also has a solid aggregate 170-88 win-loss record in the past few seasons on hard court surfaces.
