Romanian tennis player Simona Halep has received messages from the tennis community after an unfavorable verdict. The catch? Halep’s colleagues have cornered the two-time Grand Slam champion even after she pleaded for their support. It has been over twenty hours since Halep was slapped with a four-year ban. No elite players have come to her defense yet. Instead, to the Romanian’s dismay, she has been facing backlash and a slew of criticism from her colleagues. One more Top 10 player has now joined the list of critics.

The Canadian player Eugenie Bouchard, now at a low point in her tennis career, indirectly took a dig at Halep after the verdict came in. As the tide slowly turns against the former World No. 1, the Canadian seemed to echo sentiments similar to Serena Williams‘ as she, too, posted a cryptic message.

Social media has become a vicious space for the Romanian, who is already grieving over the verdict. Serena hinted at her stance earlier, mysteriously saying that eight is a “good number”. She was referring possibly to the Wimbledon 2019 final in which Halep beat the American in straight sets, denying the latter 24 Grand Slam titles. Now Bouchard, too, did not refrain from expressing her opinions as she shared a bold statement.

The Canadian player lost to the Romanian in straight sets at the 2018 Australian Open. Halep and Bouchard faced each other five times, in which the 29-year-old Bouchard secured only one win against the former World No. 1. So, after the career-harming verdict, the former World No. 5 tweeted, “I was told not to tweet today.”

The users of X (formerly Twitter) were irked by this statement and slammed Bouchard for taking a dig at the Romanian. The Canadian recently lost in the second-round qualifiers of the US Open.
