Jessica Pegula showed a great performance in the 2023 season. The American player achieved many top 5 victories and won her second Masters title. She, however, has not been able to show her great form coming into the 2024 season. As she aims to return to form, Pegula announced that she has split with her coach, leaving many in shock. 

Pegula’s decision comes after her season began with much uncertainty. A rocky stint at the Adelaide International and an early exit from the Australian Open paints a rather dubious picture of what is to come next.

Pegula did not have great success during her earlier years. She was out of the top 100 before she partnered up with David Witt. In 2019, the two joined hands, and Pegula rose quickly from the top 100 to the top 50 and then eventually rose to rank 3 in 2022. She experienced immense growth under Witt, which is why their split comes off as a bit of a curveball.

One user said that no coach seems to be safe, regardless of the sport.

One user said that no one could’ve imagined that she would reach number 3 based on the career she had during her earlier years. They further said something does seem off with her, and she seems more tired than usual and perhaps wants to change her game.

One Pegula fan was shocked that she had split with her coach, given the high-quality tennis she had been playing in the last few years.

Fans are not on board with Pegula’s decision to go separate ways with her coach. This news comes after she announced withdrawal from some tournaments due to injuries.

The Adelaide International withdrawal, followed by an early exit in the Australian Open, caused Pegula fans to worry. Their fears would only get worse as Pegula announced withdrawal from the Middle Eastern swing due to an injury sustained in her neck.
