Serena Williams discussed her frightening birthing experience in an Elle magazine story titled “How Serena Williams Saved Her Own Life.” The tennis pro and her husband of five years, Alexis Ohanian, have a 5-year-old daughter together named Olympia.

This year’s US Open has been unique. After 25 spectacular years on the Tour, it saw American legend, Serena Williams, retire from her illustrious career. When Williams was eliminated from the US Open by Australia’s Ajla Tomljanovic, it was a loss that most likely signaled the end of her professional tennis career.
Serena Williams didn’t want to bother her mother, Oracene Price
In a recent interview, Serena opened up about how she didn’t want to worry her mother, although she was going through a lot of pain. She said, “They were trying to talk to me, and all I could think was, “I’m dying, I’m dying. Oh my God.” I really thought I would faint. I got up somehow, and I went into the other room because I didn’t want my mom to worry. I didn’t want her to hear me; she’s the world’s biggest worrier.”
Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr., Serena‘s daughter, was delivered through an emergency c-section. However, the real problems started soon after the baby was delivered. Serena struggled mightily during the birthing process. First, Serena’s pregnancy had problems, resulting in the need for an urgent C-section to deliver the child. After the procedure, Serena later developed blood clots in her lungs. A filter was implanted to prevent pulmonary embolisms from reaching her lungs as a result of this series of problems, which also required weeks of bed rest.

Serena Williams also praised her mother’s fortitude while facing the early stages of her new role as a parent. She also added that her mother is the most resilient person she knows.
Serena’s mother stole the show at the US Open
During her 2022 US Open campaign, Serena Williams said goodbye to her career and her home Grand Slam tournament. Her mother, Oracene Price, husband Alexis Ohanian, and daughter Olympia Ohanian were all in attendance. Despite the importance of her daughter’s matches, her mother, Oracene, is renowned among them for maintaining her composure.
