Venus Williams made a heartbreaking exit at the Auckland Classic this January. Right at the beginning of the season, when Venus was completely in form, an unfortunate injury derailed her dreams of playing the Australian Open 2023. With a wild card by Tennis Australia, Venus’ fans were expecting so much from ‘Queen V’ on the court. Recently, Venus took to her YouTube channel to talk about her injury and her possible comeback.

A simple injury will not suppress Venus Williams. And that is a given looking at her legendary career. The courts at the ASB Classic had faced long-standing complaints about their slippery texture even before Venus was injured. However, nothing compares to the upsetting reactions of Venus fans after she withdrew from the AO2023.

Venus Williams is trying hard to grab a racket soon!

Venus vividly remembers the moments following her injury. In the video that is shot in her own home, she says, “I remember walking off the court just limping and thinking this isn’t good. I go upstairs and still do a full cool down. I couldn’t really stretch.”

Talking about her injury, she says,

“So my leg’s hurting. I really can’t walk that well. I wake up the next day and I tell my physio ‘let’s get an MRI.’ “

However, the MRI reports were not exactly the best-case scenario. They showed clear signs of injury in her hamstring and Venus knew. She says that she immediately knew she couldn’t compete in the Grand Slam this way and she had to withdraw.

Talking about the practicality of the decision, she says,

“There are times when you know there are other times when you don’t know but I knew that it was going to be a bad injury. So that’s the point where I withdrew from the Australian Open.”

The tennis legend does not forget to thank Tennis Australia and especially Craig Tiley for the opportunity. However, she says that she feels it is more important that someone who can make full use of the chance gets it.

She addresses her viewers when she says,

“I’ll get there God willing and I’ll take you guys on this journey with me back to health, back to tennis, hopefully. And hopefully sooner than later and I don’t know exactly when, but I’ll let you know.”

Needless to say, her fans are already excited at the prospect of her comeback after a speedy recovery.

Venus hates going to rehab but loves cookies

After asking her physiotherapist to look at the injury, Venus hoped that she could somehow make it work, as the Australian Open was just around the corner. However, as the night stretched, she was in pain and could not walk. However, not every topic was sad in this video, as Venus opened up about a fun fact about her obsession with cookies. She says that sugar is her go-to when she’s down after a loss.

However, she promises that whatever comes; she is going to create content for her lovely fanbase.

“And until that time, I’ll have even more time to create great content and keep you guys updated on my life. I don’t know what I’m going to do but..” she says with a laugh, “I’ll keep you updated. Let’s cross that bridge when we get there.”

Venus is hopeful that despite being riddled with her injury for so long, there is light at the end of the tunnel. She is going to rehab (despite not liking it) and trying her best to try and get back on the court as soon as possible. Anyway,

she has to complete the 2023 checklist that she committed to last year in December!
