Iga Swiatek recounts her growth through a vulnerable moment
Despite being a defending champion during the French Open 2021 edition, Swiatek went into an emotional whirlpool due to excessive expeditions. The Pole lost her quarterfinals against Maria Sakkari on the clay court. And what followed was nothing short of a nightmare. She recounted, “I remember I couldn’t sleep and everything,” three years after her match. Swiatek further explained the root cause of all the turmoil, ” ’cause — for sure, being the defending champion, especially after a Grand Slam where you weren’t really expected to do anything, it wasn’t really easy.”

Though the champion has claimed all three French Open titles since her 2021 defeat, it was during this moment the Pole admits to growing up emotionally, as she understood the importance of accepting the situation as it is. But there is no need to worry, as Iga Swiatek has found a solution. She said, “Now I have some solutions to overcome these kinds of issues”.
