At the French Open semi-final, Iga Swiatek absolutely demolished Daria Kasatkina in straight sets to reach yet another final this season. This time, she reached a Major final, which is her second time here in Paris.

Meanwhile, with her latest victory over her Russian opponent, she has matched Serena Williams’ record-breaking run from 2013.

Iga Swiatek matched Serena Williams’ record

After today’s victory, Swiatek now won 34 consecutive matches in a row this season. Previously, Serena Williams held this record in 2013, and her streak ended at the Wimbledon Championships at the hands of the German player, Sabine Lisicki. That loss shocked the entire world, as Serena was also on a 34-match unbeaten run.

Now, Swiatek also touched that number and could potentially surpass it if she wins her next match. Interestingly, Venus Williams is currently sitting at the top with the most number (35) of back-to-back wins. This streak started back in the day in 2000 when Venus was truly dominating the tour.

Swiatek’s record-breaking run started at the Qatar Open when she won that tournament. Since then, she won four consecutive tournaments, including the ‘Sunshine Doubles’. Now, she has a chance to create several records, if she wins the French Open title by winning her next match.

Swiatek will face a tough opponent in the final

Speaking of the next match, the Pol will face the American prodigy Coco Gauff in the final of the French Open 2022. After Swiatek won her semi-final match against Kasatkina, by 6-2,6-1, Gauff also took care of the business in straight sets. She defeated the unseeded Italian, Martina Trevisan, by 6-3,6-1.

It is worth noting that Gauff hasn’t lost a single set throughout the entire tournament. Whereas, Swiatek lost a set during her fourth-round match against Qinwen Zheng. Despite that, Swiatek is the overwhelmingly favorite to win the final. Moreover, the Pol has played against Gauff two times before, and both times, she beat the American teenager.

The last time Iga played against Gauff was at the Miami Open earlier this year, where she absolutely destroyed Gauff. On clay, they played against one another in Rome last year. Then as well, Swiatek won convincingly. Although the top seed is the favorite, Gauff could surprise Swiatek and end her unbeaten run in the final.
