Did the WTA legend get it right by snubbing Iga Swiatek for Aryna Sabalenka?

Aryna Sabalenka has dropped a spectacle for the tennis world at the US Open. And before you guess it, yes, it is one of the best; the fire inside her has only started to burn brighter. The Belarusian star has finally concluded her long-awaited dream in New York. While that’s certainly a reason for celebration, she has found another one. Only now, Sabalenka is heaping praise from a WTA legend, marking her dominance over the likes of Iga Swiatek.

At the US Open, the No. 2 seed had an incredible two-week run, wherein she thwarted formidable challenges on her way to the summit clash. Clashing with Jessica Pegula for the title, Sabalenka enriched the American crowd with a dramatic 7-5, 7-5 victory over the World No. 6 to lift her maiden Flushing Meadows crown. As congratulatory messages started to pour in, compatriot Victoria Azarenka wasn’t far behind. However, she had something far more intriguing to add.

Taking to her social media, the Belarusian pro lauded her countrywoman’s “amazing win.” Furthermore, Azarenka also labeled the No. 2 seed as the “best player in the world this season”, notably superseding the latter’s status over Iga Swiatek. She is seemingly justified. Despite being the crowd favorite, the Polish top seed endured a disheartening end to her New York campaign, having flushed out in the quarterfinals to finalist Pegula.

For those unaware, Azarenka wasn’t the only player to commend the No. 2 seed. Notable personalities including Billie Jean King, Carlos Alcaraz, Ons Jabeur, Andy Roddick, and Martina Navratilova were some of the names in her long list of admirers. After she encountered immense mental challenges followed by injuries, she deserves every wish that comes her way
