For this year, the player who has made groundbreaking records is the 20-year-old Iga Swiatek.
Swiatek claimed her career highest ranking of World No.1 and reigned in the summer double this year. Further, she has secured a seat on the elite’s table by making yet another record. Here’s a list of WTA players with whom she shares the achievement.

Iga Swiatek Becomes One of the Youngest Players to Win 5 WTA 1000 Titles
Iga Swiatek is currently on a 28 match win streak. She hasn’t lost a single match since the 2022 Dubai International championship. The Polish tennis professional claimed victory at the Qatar Open, Indian Wells and Miami Open. Thereafter, she defended her title at the Italian Open this year and became the sixth youngest WTA player to win 5 WTA 1000 titles.

The youngest was Martina Hingis, who achieved the milestone as a teenager. After her, Maria Sharapova, Serena Williams, Caroline Wozniacki and Venus Williams achieved the same at the age of 20, with a difference in months.
Swiatek currently is riding high on form, and her tennis is completely in a different league. Therefore, it won’t be wrong to say that the Pole has a high chance of winning the upcoming Grand Slam based in France.

Iga in Clay
Last year Iga made up to the fourth round of the Madrid Open and lost against Ash Barty, the eventual finalist of the tournament. Thereafter, she clinched the title at Rome and had a quarterfinal run in the French Open where Maria Sakkari slipped the ticket to semis out of her hands. However, the factor that is worth mentioning is it always took players from WTA top 10 to uproot Swiatek from these tournaments.

Speaking of her performance this year, she leapfrogged to the ranking of World No.1 by using her learnings from the past tours. And stormed every clay based tournament. The Pole thrashed Aryna Sabalenka in straight sets to claim the trophy at Stuttgart Open.

Following that, Swiatek withdrew from the Madrid Open due to a shoulder injury. Though her time off the court didn’t affect her game. As he defeated the Madrid Open champion, Ons Jabeur in the last round of Italian Open.
